Sea World: The Highlight Of My Life.

Hey, Readers!!

We've MIA for a little while, but the good news is, we're back. Bad news is, we're sun burnt. On May 2nd, Jeff graduated. I didn't get any pictures of him, on account of camera failure, but there are some floating around I'll post at a later date. He was swell. He's positively giddy about having nothing to do now. It's ridiculous. I'm going to be the spouse with the job and school, he'll be doing nothing. Could this be the beginning of a long-term trend? Is it possible that one day the world will see a multi-tasking Sarah and an entertainment news-reading Jeff? Will I perhaps be the one coming home discussing great literature to a Jeff that announces that if he got a tattoo, it would be of a carton of spilled milk? This will have to be greatly monitored.

The day after graduation was our first anniversary. That's right, it's been one year. Readers, I'm not going to lie, it was a fun year. There are 3 reasons for our marriage's success: 1. I make Jeff sillier. 2. He inspires me to act less like a 5-year old. 3. We genuinely like each other. I'm a big believer in the last one. Our marriage has its weaknesses of course, but we get along quite well. I really think that this is because we not only are in love with each other, we're in like with each other. This really seems to smooth all our conflicts over pretty well. It might make for a less dramatic love story, but all in all, we're incredibly blessed.

On our anniversary, we were lucky enough to fly to San Diego and hop on board the Carnival Elation.
It was our first time cruising and we really had a blast, mostly due to the delicious smorgasbord offered on cruises. I gained five pounds! I'm not ashamed! As I mentioned earlier, our stop in Ensenada was cancelled, so our only port of call was Catalina Island. Catalina Island is a beautiful place. We rented bikes and rode around the island. In all the time we've known each other, Jeff had never seen me ride a bike till now. Why? I think I look like Kermit the Frog when I ride a bike.

Also in Catalina was some beautiful botanical gardens and a really cool monument built for one of the first benefactors of the island. See below.

After the cruise, we stayed over in San Diego for 2 nights. We were again lucky enough to strike gold. I got a great rate on hotwire.com on a 4-star beachfront hotel, and it turned out to be the Hilton. Pretty darn snazzy.

The best came last. For my anniversary present, Jeff took me to SeaWorld! I have been telling everyone who'd listen that all I wanted was to go to SeaWorld. My pleas were answered. SeaWorld was amaaaazing. I've recently realized that animals doing tricks is probably my favorite thing in the world, especially when these are weird sea creatures. Tickets were ridiculously expensive, and I could tell that frugal Jeff was wincing inside. Alas, it was made worth it time and time again. The moment we realized that we were not getting ripped off came pretty early on in the day- we watched a sea lions and sea otters show. When a little otter came out and waved to the crowd, we were goners. You know those people who are nuts about Disney Land? The kind that HAVE to go every year, who would rather go there than Europe. Yeah. I want to be that kind of person, but with SeaWorld. You can't get Mickey Mouse to do back flips.

Looks like fun! I have never been to sea world, and it is on my list of "one of the 7 wonders of the world," that I want to go to:)

I love reading your blog -- you make me laugh, Sarah! Kudos to you going to Sea World. I agree...Sea World tromps Disneyland. Sorry about the sunburns. Ryan and I scorched on our honeymoon. I think I still have a tan line. Yes, that was ALMOST 2 years ago. :)

Congrats to Jeff. I also have nothing to do, but I'm not reveling in it as much as he is. I think the time has come for a Goates-Carr Soiree.

I am glad that you are back!! I like what you said about being in like. I find that one of the things I enjoy most about marriage is Jayson. I hope that makes sense. I want to touch/see dolphins SOOO bad. I've been trying to convince Jayson to take me to Disneyland/Seaword for our Anniversary! We'll have to see how that one goes:)
