The Great Debate.

This is my diaper bag. (Would everyone please note the possessive pronoun?)

We have an on-going debate, Jeff and I.

You see, Jeffrey thinks that this diaper bag is inappropriate for the mother of a little boy. He thinks it is too feminine and indicates that I have a girl baby. He also thinks it is too girly for him to carry around and feels alienated by it.

I say that it is my diaper bag. Like a purse, it is an accessory that I carry. It does not matter that I have a little boy, I am a girl and thus I will carry a girly diaper bag. Also, Jeff only carries the bag when I am not around to do it (never). And in the rare occasion that he is carrying the diaper bag, he will also be carrying Adam, so nobody will be questioning his accessory.

My mother bought me that diaper bag. She took me to glorious Target and asked me to pick out a diaper bag. There were only two, that one and a ridiculously expensive Eddie Bauer bag that looked like an ugly tote that a grad student would carry around. (Grad students are the worst, Jeff) So yes, I chose the cute, girly one. I AM A GIRL.

Obviously, I am right, but public opinion is mixed. Many actually agree with that darn Jeff. What do you think?

Heck yes to the bag. Never compromise your feminine side because of a manly man's opinion. It's not like you're painting his nails or forcing a make-over. You're carrying a practical yet stylish bag for your little guy! I could understand if the bag was bright pink with frills and lace and doilies strapped all over it ... would he rather a grocery paper sack? jk.

I think the bag is just fine. It's really not that girly. Jeff can pretend the pink isn't on it & red can be used for boys or girls. I think you should carry whatever you feel comfortable with. My bag has blue on it, but I'm actually looking for a purse with many pockets so I can ditch the diaper bag for a more glamorous accessory. Your bag is much prettier than mine though.

I also vote Yes for the bag.

As one who works for a company that sells diaper bags and deals with this debate on a frequent basis, I have this to say. It is the couple's diaper bag. Not the baby's. So it doesn't matter whether the bag is pink, blue, green, yellow, or black. That being said, it's the couple's bag. Both parents carry it and as such, it should be a color and style that both partners should feel comfortable carrying. That is the overall feelings and opinions that we have come up with at work.

Sorry, I'm with Jeff...having said that it's a great bag! But the baby is a boy and Jeff does have to use the bag. Apparently I'm the only woman who gets excited about an all black diaper bag from Columbia (brand) and think that it's a great bag I get when we're done using it for the baby :)

I feel my side has been misrepresented, if only slightly. Though I do not deny saying that I feel uncomfortable carrying around a pink bag, I don't recall ever saying that, and quite frankly, it doesn't sound like me. I withdraw it from the record.

My point is that we have a son, and I don't see how getting a pink diaper bag is any different than a pink car seat or a pink bonnet. There's nothing wrong with pink--you just don't buy it for baby boys. It's confusing.

I'd have to agree that the bag is yours so you can choose what it looks like. I did however choose a gender neutral bag because I knew I'd have an easier time getting Noel to carry it :)

I agree with Jeff on this one. Sorry Louge.

I had the cutest pink and maroon diaper bag when Neil came home.. we went to his 8 week check up and I had a lime green blanket wrapped around him.. some nurse at the lab took one look at him, than my diaper bag and said "what an adorable daughter you have" im guessing since lime green is a gender neutral color and the pink bag made her think he was a she. I quickly said "son!" she than looked at his papers and was all " i guess Neil sounds better for a boy huh!? im sorry I just thought with the bag and all..." I went to the store and bought a new diaper bag after that! hahaha Im a huge purse lover, so I quickly became a diaper bag lover and had so- many! I am back to purses now cause Neil doesnt need a lot like he use to for on the go =]Matt uses a backpack when he takes him or for church so he doesnt feel retarded with my "purse" haha.

Grad students are the worst! And Steve! Bag's cute. Theocracy and I'm in charge- my vote is the one that counts.
